Description: The Sprint network offers a seamless way to obtain a Sprint device's location using applications on a wide variety of platforms from handhelds to servers and from web pages to desktop applications.

There are two basic types of location fixes: approximate fixes and precise fixes. Both types of fixes can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Precision Fix: Based on network cell tower triangulation and/or handset GPS.

  • Accuracy: within 50 meters when device has GPS reception (usually outdoors / in vehicle)
  • Latency: Fix may take up to 40 seconds, dependent upon GPS reception quality.
  • Network Compatibility: CDMA

Approximate Fix: Based on closest cell tower lat, long position.

  • Accuracy: Varies based upon how close Sprint cell towers are to each other (urban areas, accuracy is within 1 mile and in rural areas is within 15 miles)
  • Latency: Fix takes about 5 seconds
  • Network Compatibility: CDMA and 4G

Uses: Uses for location services include dispatch support, social networking applications, traffic analysis, geo-tagging and many others.
