Sprint will be releasing a new software maintenance release for the Instinct handset with the primary changes focused on the browser. Version: BH29 Delivery: OTA Projected Release Date: 9/17 (client initiated) 9/24 (network initiated) Projected Release Dates are best estimates and are subject to change with no notice. Notes: Instinct firmware BH29 includes the resolution of 249 tickets open since the previous public firmware release, BF30. The release also marks the first public release of the updated Instinct Web Browser, version 1.1. The new browser is based on an entirely new codebase and brings an 10x improvement to rendering speed, most noticeable in the areas of pan/zoom/resize functionality. New browser features include: * VC Button -> Hide/show controls; browser controls can be hidden to provide more screen to webpage display * Favorites enhancements -> Improvements to favorites UI allows for sticky mode lock * 34 other web browser tickets resolved Please note the information provided in this update is subject to change. Thanks Sprint ADP
COOL!!! thanks for letting us know.
Thank you for the update Nathan. Can you please tell us if this will fix the browser crash problem? I'm wondering why that wasn't included in your post since this is the #1 issue with this phone. Thanks!
Thanks for the info. The rendering speed improvement is great as this has been the biggest problem with the browser in my opinion. It's a shame to have good network speeds crippled by slow page rendering.
"34 other web browser tickets resolved" Surely the crashing is ticket #1
Thank you very much, Nathan. I do have to say that my thanks are tempered by the fact that this is the very first real software update post we've gotten from you folks. (Actual summary of fixes included and actual projected release dates.) If you are able to continue to provide this new level of support information you'll find a lot of really grateful people out there. Particularly if it can also be applied to the LCDUI information "update" post which is just as sparse and completely non-commital as ever. You guys have left the world of "phones" where no one cares about updates until a new model comes out, and entered the world of software and hand held computing... where everyone is used to getting actual projected release dates and at least some information about what's included in the fixes, etc. Really first class software support would also provide us with a regularly updated roadmap of fixes (and new feature adds!!!) with projected release dates moving out into the future... starting with the immediate and some what firm dates like this BH29 firmware upgrade, and moving out to the "here's what we hope to maybe add to the Instinct a year from now." Any chance at all that you guys would consider doing something like that? It would quiet a considerable amount of the heavy incoming flames you've been taking.
Wow, thanks for the update and all that hard work! If this change is as dramatic as it sounds, with a new codebase and all, then I believe it really has the potential to be very good. Looking forward to it.
No offense, but how do we KNOW this is a legit post? If I remember correctly but 'nathan_sprint_adp' posted something AWFULLY similar stating that we'd be getting an update on Sept 1st. Then that got taken down. Then it appeared as if this forum got hacked with someone making bogus statements in nathan's place. So how do we know this isn't more tricks?!
The update on the Instinct is definitely coming - we have worked to address the issues with the postings that have inacurate information. Thanks Sprint ADP
There is some guy posting pics of what he claims is the new browser over on SprintUsers.com forum. It looks Photoshopped to me, but I could be wrong. I'm sure the handlers of the beta test program would be pretty upset if they did turn out to be real. http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t= 172284
