Can android developers get a dev phone?

Right now all we have to go on is the emulator. While we can check if our app works on the emulator, we still have found instances where we don't have the ability to test.. Such as the accuracy of barcode scanning w/ flash on / off. Will there be a way for us to obtain a sprint dev phone(s)? We just noticed we missed the Sprint Dev Conference.

Sprint does not provide a device loaner program. We have partnered with mobile complete to provide access to Sprint's entire device portfolio so you do have the opportunity to test across all the devices - to learn more about this go to our "Develop" tab and "Testing"

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.. One of our issues as a small development house is the cost to develop applications for the different networks. We are giving up 30% to have the carriers distribute the applications. While the device anywhere works pretty well. We have already had some experiences where having a device in hand is critical.

One of our games, CowPotato for example, was tested on a phone released today via the Device Anywhere. It is an OpenGL game. The performance mimiced that of a local emulator. The problem is, when testing it today on actual hardware the performance was much worse than that of a G1. We wan't to make the user experience as good as possible. But spending money on DA, does not seem to make much economical sense when you can't test everything.. Such as testing barcode generation & reading w/ & w/out flash for our KeyRing application. Using GPS navigation & audio recording for our A2B application..

We are using lots of the hardware functionality that is on the Android phones, but you can only test so much of it in DA.. Any other thoughts/suggestions? A discounted phone of some sort for developers who have published apps w/ no plan?

Our A2B app was featured in the market place in September. And we are just trying to make sure the user experience helps Android as a whole excel. Thanks!

Chris.
