Generic Content Descriptor Tutorial for CDMA Devices This document provides step-by-step instructions for creating Generic Content Descriptor files for Sprint CDMA devices.
Overview
The following is a summary of the available content types and formats:
Static Screensavers
- Static images for all phones, except the Treo 600TM by palmOneTM and Treo 650TM by palmOneTM, must use PNG format.
- Static images for the TreoTM 600 by palmOneTM and Treo 650TM by palmOneTM must use JPEG format.
- Preview files for Sprint's online Content Catalog must use GIF format. In addition, all preview files must have a watermark across it that says "sample". This further deters a user from attempting to use that sample as a screensaver.
Static Ringers
- All polyphonic ringers for the phone must use MIDI format.
- For CMX 2.x devices, use 16 voice / 128 wavetable polyphonic.
- For CMX 2.x devices, all voice, music samples and / or sound effects ringers for the phone must use QCELP format. The Treo 600TM by palmOneTM, Treo 650TM by palmOneTM, and PM-6225 by Nokia devices do not support QCELP.
- For CMX 3.0 devices, you can also use 32 voice / 128 wavetable polyphonic.
- For CMX 3 + devices, you can also use the ADPCM format as a higher quality format over QCP (ADPCM does not always sound superior to QCELP-it depends on the type of song).
- For CMX 4.x devices, use 48 voice / 512 wavetable polyphonic.
- For AAC compatible devices AAC (AAC+) can be used as a higher quality format. See AAC Design Guidelines.
- Preview files for all static ringers must use SWF (Shockwave Flash format). (All preview files must be of equal length to the QCELP, AAC, or MIDI files provided, as well as equal quality).
Animated Screensavers (Compact Media Extension - CMX)
- All animated images for the phone must use PMD format.
