4G WiMAX

What is 4G?

Clearwire together with Sprint has developed the first WiMAX (4G Technology) network in the United States. Sprint is now harnessing that power to launch Sprint 4G service across the country and it doesn't end with Sprint. Intel, Samsung, Motorola, Google, ZTE and Zyxel have partnered with Clearwire to develop the Wimax infrastructure.

  • 4G = Speeds and Feeds. It's all about coupling speed and productivity
  • 4G is the next generation of wireless networks that will complement the Third Generation (3G) network
  • Sprint 4G is the name of Sprint’s WiMAX service that provides “Wi-Fi like” experiences in a city-sized hotspot
  • 4G provides high speed, high capacity, IP based services for video, data and voice (Voice over IP) on an integrated global network that is based on open standards
  • Businesses, consumers and local governments will benefit by extending their Internet experience beyond home or office with this technology
  • Sprint 4G delivers speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G*, providing a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and streamed multimedia is sent to users (*Average 4G download speeds are 3-5x faster than average 3G speeds. Speed claims based on download speeds only. Actual speeds may vary. 4G currently available in limited areas and on select devices; check Sprint.com/4G for Sprint 4G coverage/ device info.)
    • 3G speeds are as good or better than DSL service
    • 4G speed is an experience similar to basic cable service

  • Intel is currently embedding chips that support WiMAX into laptops and other computing devices. This could provide a significant competitive advantage.
  • There is WiMAX in 135 countries worldwide covering 435 million people with expectations to grow to 800 million by the end of 2010.
  • Current build plan projects up to 120M covered POPs by EOY 2010. See more here.
